Salomon Snowboard/Ski Demos
Considering a new snowboard or skis? Maybe you’re just wondering what a difference equipment could make to your on-snow experience? Exactly how does all the technology you’ve been reading about on the web feel in the real world? It’s nice to be reassured you’ve made the right choice for the way you ski or ride. But what model is the one for you?
On-snow ski and board demo’s are great way to get a feel for things. If you’re visiting any of the major ski resorts in New Zealand this winter, you have the opportunity to try a range of Salomon skis and snowboards on the snow. It’s a chance to test-drive some brand-new gear and find your magic ride!
How does it work?
Check the calendar of Salomon Demo events below. If there’s an event at your chosen resort, all you need to do is bring your own boots and poles and talk to the Salomon demo team on the mountain about your ability, favoured terrain and riding style and they’ll help you select a few models to try.Demo skis are fitted with bindings that are quickly and safely adjusted to the sole length of your ski boot so you’ll be out on the snow with minimal delay. You can easily check the sole length of your boot easily as it’s normally printed on the outside of the shell somewhere ahead of the heel.Demonstration snowboards are fitted with regular bindings, so it’s a simple matter of the demo technician matching your stance settings and heading out.You’ll be asked to leave some sort of security such as a driver’s license or credit card and then away you go! 
Getting the most from the demo
There are some simple tips to making sure you make the most of the demo.
- Use the same run to test each ski or board – that way you’re minimising the variables of terrain and snow and allowing yourself to focus on the equipment.
- Pay attention to how things feel – is there grip? Energy? Are they stable at speed. Try and use them in the conditions you’re likely to use them in too to give you a real understanding of the differences between each model.
- It’s worth trying each model in a couple of different lengths – sometimes you might find that a few cms makes a big difference to how things work for you. Everyone’s different and there’s no “right” length for your skis or board.
- Try some things that might not be on your list. Throw in some wild cards – you might find yourself liking something you never expected!
- Don’t be afraid to take things back if they’re just not working for you. If you don’t like it, try another option!

Take notes – snap a picture of the equipment you try and use your phone to make some notes whilst you’re on the chair. That way you don’t forget how things felt.
Making a decision
Remember, at the end of the day, the only opinion that really matters is yours! Choosing new equipment is a personal process, so if a ski or board feels good for you, but not someone else, that’s OK. What matters is that you find the gear that helps you get the most out of your time on the hill.

Check the list of Salomon demo days below. They’re happening at Cardrona, Coronet Peak, The Remarkables and Treble Cone in the Southern Lakes, Mt. Hutt in Canterbury and Mt. Ruapehu on the North Island.
