When we go hiking my wife, 71 years old, is usually worried about slipping because of osteoporosis (easy to break something if you fall.) Three years ago we found a hiking shoe in Switzerland which was really comfortable and had a really grippy sole giving her more confidence when walking on mountain paths. It was a Salomon with a "Contagrip" sole and Goretex upper. She wears it not just for Swiss mountains but also for our daily walk in the Adelaide Hills, so by now it needed replacement. No problem, I said, we have the article number - we just reorder on line. Of course that model is no longer available so I bought this shoe for her - it has the same Contagrip sole and Goretex upper and is slightly lighter. However it was initially tighter in the toe than the earlier model (same size and fitting), which is why I gave it a four instead of five star rating. However after a few weeks the toe area seems to have eased and she is now very happy with it. In short, this is a comfortable hiking shoe with excellent grip but (as another reviewer noted) it does need a bit of time to adjust to your foot.
